Learn Astrology on Your Own

The best way to learn about yourself astrologically is to the learn the astrological language for yourself. It starts with learning the basics. Picking up one thread will unravel layer upon layer, leading to a deeper understanding of the energies of the zodiac and how they express through you. Every astrologer, from beginner to professional, brings his or her own take to the language. Every astrologer practises it in a slightly different way, depending on personal perspective. This is the beauty of astrology - every astrologer is an artist, finding expression through the symbols of the zodiac. Astrologers use words and symbols as their medium in an attempt to express the energetic reality of what it means to be human. Like everything, the symbolic language of astrology is constantly evolving, and that’s what makes it so intriguing. No matter how much you know, there is always so much more to learn.

    This website will allow you to create a free birth chart. It also has a wealth of information you can access about your chart.

  • Horoscopes4u - www.horoscopes4u.com
    A really fun site linking you to hundreds of astrology sites with daily, weekly and monthly updates. Some sites are just for fun; others are more technical. You can go through the sites to find your favourites.

  • The Cosmic Path - www.thecosmicpath.com
    Stephanie Azaria and Anne Ortelee run this fabulous site with daily and weekly updates. Weekly aspects are also available at the bottom of the weekly update.This site also has a section of recommended books - much more extensive than this one!

  • Café Astrology - www.cafeastrology.com
    A great site full of information for all levels of astrological knowledge.

  • Astro Barry - www.astrobarry.com
    This is a fun and informative site written by Barry Perlman. He updates the site often and writes about the big aspects or sign changes. He also does weekly horoscopes.

  • Tribe - www.tribe.net
    This site of message boards and personal profiles allows you to search for the topics that interest you - including astrology. You can post questions and have them answered by knowledgeable astrologers, including professionals, and also post your own thoughts and ideas.

  • The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need  by Joanna Woolfolk
    It’s not exactly the only book you’ll ever need, but it does teach the basics of astrology in a very simple way. The book teaches you to draw a birth chart from scratch, so you understand the components and how they are placed in the chart. There are also some basic interpretations.

  • Chart Interpretation Handbook: Guidelines for Understanding the Essentials of the Birth Chart  by Stephen Arroyo
    A chart interpretation book is a good place to start after you have learned the basics of the birth chart. This is the first one I used. Again, you will develop your own style, but learning the basics of interpretation is a must.

  • How to Read Your Astrological Chart: Aspects of the Cosmic Puzzle  by Donna Cunningham
    Another good book to check out when first starting to interpret charts.

  • The American Ephemeris for the 21st Century: 2000 - 2050 at Noon by Neil F. Michelsen and Rique Pottenger
    An ephemeris is a book that charts the movement of the planets. It places the planets and other points daily at their current degree and sign. You can look up birth chart placements and keep track of transits with this fabulous book.
